National Testing

We wish all children the best of luck in the tests but please remember tests are not the be all and end all. The tests do not show the outstanding talents our children possess, nor do they show the excellent work that is done day in, day out, by our wonderful children!

Children in years 2 to 9 now take national tests. It is important that your child is in school for these tests.

Numeracy

There are two kinds of numeracy tests.

  • Procedural test that measures skills in number, measuring and data.  This year, pupils will complete this test online.
  • Reasoning that measures how well the children can use what the know to solve everyday problems.  This is a paper test.

Reading

The reading tests are made up of short questions based on two or more texts. Some of the questions check how well the text has been understood, others aim to find out if children are able to make judgements about what they are reading.

Interpreting Test Results

This short animation talks parents/carers through the National Reading and Numeracy Test reports.
